Now assuming that 3G will catch up in India and there will be strong demand for this, we believe there'd a rise in 3G compatible handsets in India. Mobile makers like Nokia have been gearing up as 3G was sure to happen. You will find yourself with many options if you are plannning to buy a 3G handset in India. Let's take a look at some of them.
Nokia is the leader in the mobile space in India and it shares a good relationship with its existing customers which could well prove decisive when consumers would short-list which 3G enabled phone to buy. Nokia's N Series has been a great hit and has managed to strike a right chord with the Indian mobile phone users. Barring some exceptions like Nokia N91 (read 'brick') almost all the phones of the N Series have everything to make it worth an option.
Some of the Nokia handsets which you can give a try if you happen to live in India are:
Nokia N95 was the Nokia's first 5 megapixel camera and it is still one of the best bet if you seek broadband access on the go and other tantrums like above-par digital camera, dual way slider etc. The market price of Nokia N95 in India is around Rs. 24,000 for 8GB edition.
Nokia N96 has been keeping all of us excited since last year or so and Nokia hastened to prepone its launch before Apple iPhone 3G. This move was made keeping in mind the sensitivity and importance of the Indian mobile phone market. The market price of Nokia N96 in India is around Rs. 33,000.
Nokia N82 is another offering which comes with a 5 megapixel camera like Nokia N95 & N96. It has the most unique design amongst all the Nokia N series handsets.
You can bargain hard to get a Nokia N82 handset at around Rs. 19,000.
If you are looking for cheaper Nokia handsets which can give provide you a 3G experience, then you can have a look at the following handsets:
Nokia N73 is a safe bet and it costs like little under Rs. 13,000 bucks. During my testing with Nokia N73 it delivered better music experience than many of the better handsets of Nokia N series.
Nokia 3120 Classic is one phone which is said to possess 3G capabilities and I had to check it on the Nokia's India site in order to confirm. This phone costs around Rs. 65oo and strangely enough you can have 3G experience in this one as well.
Now if you have something against Nokia then you might give a chance to other mobile makers.
Samsung SGH J800 is the most affordable 3G enabled 2 megapixel slider in the market as claimed by Samsung. You can buy it at prices around Rs. 7500 and we believe it's quite a winner.
Samsung TouchWiz was Samsung's response to Apple iPhone and if you don't want to fancy the cool applications and can manage with relatively low grade browser than Apple Safari then you shouldn't mind TouchWiz. It is priced around Rs. 21,000 and the rest depends on your bargaining skills.
Samsung Innov8 is for the guys who don't have to worry about moolah because it's marked price is Rs. 45,999. I will rather buy a laptop with that much money.
Other Samsung handsets which support 3G and you might wanna consider are Samsung SGH i780, Omnia and SGH i200.
Sony Ericsson produces fine mobile phones as well and they are known for making good multimedia phones.
Sony Ericsson Xperia is what making news in the recent times for some elements they have incorporated like Xperia panels. These are essentially certain softwares or applications for specific activity or functions. The phone is priced at Rs. 44,000.
Sony Ericsson G502 is another great handset from SE which is quite light on your pockets too. It is priced around Rs. 7300 bucks. It actually supports HSDPA which is a step beyond 3G as it provides speeds at 3.5G.
Other Sony Ericsson handsets you might wanna consider are Sony Ericsson G700, G900, K530i, K610i, K660i, M600i and P990i.
Motorola handsets have lost the frenzy that they once had and there are very handsets which support 3G. You might want to consider Motorola Q which is a smartphone.
Almost all the handsets of HTC support 3G while I couldn't find a single Spice mobile handset which supports 3G. Blackberry lovers also have limited options and the only phone that supports 3G is BlackBerry Bold 9000. I believe there should be more BlackBerry phones and if you know some more which are available in India then please leave a comment. The case is pretty similar with LG as there's hardly any option for the consumers. The only phone I can think of LG which supports 3G is LG Viewty and some of its variations.
In order to compile this list I had to visit the site of each phone manufacturer and I must say that only the sites of Nokia and Samsung give the option to categorize phones on the basis of feature like 3G. I think it shows how much companies are serious about capturing 3G phone market in India.
